Cotto's trainer, Joe Santiago, said they were satisfied with the work of the first two sessions of sparring.
"We are in our second home and everything goes to plan. The boy (hired to spar with Cotto) is an excellent resource. He knows to do his job very well," said Santiago.
"He is left-handed and fast as Pacquiao... looks like a lot," he added. "If there is any difference, is that he has more defense than Pacquiao. Cotto has done well (with the left-handed position of the rival). We were already working with some sparring we had in Puerto Rico before coming here."
In the coming weeks, according to Santiago, the workload will intensify until about the last week of October, when the day approaches to travel to Las Vegas.
"In those last weeks, we will bring two more guys to spar, to come fresh and force him to use the effort we are looking for those days that help us prepare for the 12 rounds," said Santiago.
"If it ends before, then so be it, but we'll go with the necessary condition to fight with intensity for 12 rounds."
Speaking of condition, Santiago guaranteed that Cotto will mark to the 145 pounds on the official weigh day, rejecting the arguments of Pacquiao's trainer, Freddie Roach. In the Philippines, Roach predicted that Cotto might mark pounds over the agreed weight as happened to Floyd Mayweather vs. Juan Manuel Marquez. Roach also said that the fight contract included an agreement to ease the penalty if he weighed more.
"That's not true," said Santiago. "And Cotto, no doubt, will weigh 145 pounds," he said.

Freddie Roach is happy for Pacquiao, but he has one wish for his star pupil before the curtains closes: defeat Mayweather.
Manny Pacquiao's Former Manager Rod Nazario Died - Rod Nazario’s death came four days after Pacquiao entered Baguio City training camp. Nazario struggled with lung cancer for many years before passing away at the age of 74.
Pacquiao was somber during his Thursday training.
“I am deeply saddened by the passing of Rod Nazario, who was not only a loving father and husband, but a great loss to me and the sport of boxing. I will forever cherish our fondest memories in and outside the ring. We will terribly miss him," said Pacquiao.
Pacquiao visited Nazario last weekend at Perpetual Help Hospital in Las Pinas. About Rod Nazario
Nazario managed Pacquiao from 1995 to 2005. He was responsible for Pacquiao's U.S. break in 2001 when Manny defeated beat Lehlo Ledwaba for the IBF super-bantamweight world title. Nazario was also responsible in pairing Pacquiao with Barrera, a fight which made Pacquiao a star. They parted ways after Pacquiao lost to Erik Morales.

Freddie Roach Baguio City Arrival Video - Trainer Freddie Roach, conditioning coach Alex Ariza, and Wild Card enforcer Rob Peters arrived in Baguio City. Pacquiao and Roach begins their mitt session.
Here's what Freddie Roach has to say afterwards:
“Manny looked today as if he is ready to fight on Saturday. Manny’s already sharp and he did what I wanted him to do. He moved as if he’s already been training the past two months.”
“If I didn’t know better, I would think he was in the gym for a month. His combinations are fast and his power is already there. His mind-set, we’re on the same page that we know how to fight Cotto.”
“The power and the speed is right there today. I am very impressed.”
“He wanted to make an impression on me and he certainly did.”
“Without a doubt, this is our best start. He’s now in great shape and I’m fine with that.”
“I love it. The ring is nice,”
“We will try to set the pace and not allow Cotto to do it.”
“I’m training Manny not to get hit,” said Roach, "how to parry."
Manny Pacquiao’s training will be then restricted tommorow and closed for viewing. The next media day would be on Bob Arum arrival Thursday next week.

Before going to Florida, Cotto has a public workout at the capital of San Juan at Samuel "Sammy" Rodriguez in Aguas Buenas.
"Now we say goodbye to the fans of Puerto Rico, Aguas Buenas, who opened the doors," said Cotto. "It's a way of thanking them."
Dozens of fans arrived at the stadium to watch in a ring located in the middle of the field. Then some of them came to take pictures with the champion Cagueno. The audience included a group of about 20 students from the School of Sport of the Municipality of San Juan.
"We had a good foundation. The work has been quite effective. I understand that we are going to refine and get into the hard training there in Tampa. We already work force, the base, now work the technical-tactical," said Cotto.
"We said goodbye to the fans, the town of Aguas Buenas, who opened the doors, and what better way to say thanks to the Mayor, his people and his entire administration."
Joe Santiago, Trainer
"We are seeing many (Pacquiao's fights on video). We saw the two defeats, but we are seeing more," said Santiago, the main trainer who was before Cotto's long-time assistant trainer.
"Although he has dominated, there is always something he can capitalize. Do not rule out any fight."
At Tampa they will focus on working with lefties. Santiago said the intention is that "Miguel will see his right hand forward and settling to avoid colliding with the front leg."

I want to be perfect.
“Marquez is tough as hell. Tough, tough, tough. I hit him with some shots and I thought they were going to finish him, but he kept pushing back. That is the Mexican warrior heart in him.”
