Mayweather's distraction is plenty. Floyd's uncle Roger Mayweather has a pending court case regarding an alleged assault on a female boxer that he used to train. Floyd rib injury, which was the reason for the fight delay, appears to be now healed. Floyd denies the rumor that he owes 6 million in taxes.

As usual, Mayweather displayed his assets, the mansion, the cars. He also appears to give back to charity, giving speeches to homeless youths.

This 24/7 series visited Marquez's hometown, which as Juan narrated it has murder everyday. Marquez's parents is poor, and he has to share one bedroom with his eight siblings. It was his father who taught Marquez to box, but it was Nacho Beristain who in the past 20 years has polished him to become a world class boxer.

Floyd and his father has reconciled. Father and uncle seems to be on good terms, but we shall see if they can keep it up on the next episodes.

The historic match marks the return of boxing to movie theaters for the first time in nearly three decades.

The first boxing match publicly shown in movie theaters was the Eric Boon vs. Arthur Danaher fight in London seen in only three theaters on Feb. 23, 1939. The first boxing match shown in U.S. movie theaters was the Joe Louis vs. Lee Savold bout from Madison Square Garden in New York on June 15, 1951. The last fight to be widely shown in movie theaters was Sugar Ray Leonard's victory over Roberto "Fists of Stone" Duran in the famous "No Mas" fight on Nov. 25, 1980.

ASSAULT IN THE RING revisits a boxing scandal considered one of the sport's darkest hours, and traces a man's despairing journey following his alleged involvement in a criminal plot. The documentary examines new evidence about this boxing match turned 30-minute assault, and reveals much more about the pre-fight activities of Luis Resto, his trainer Panama Lewis and the athletic commission representatives.

On June 16, 1983, undefeated prizefighter Billy Collins Jr. set out to fulfill every boxer's dream of fighting in the world's most famous arena - Madison Square Garden. Collins' opponent, Luis Resto of the Bronx, moving up from welterweight, had his own dream of rising to the occasion in front of hometown fans. But what began as a match that Nashville native Collins was favored to win changed both athletes' lives - ending Collins' career dreams and landing Resto in prison.

Resto seemingly reached a fighter's ultimate goal by upsetting Collins, but his post-fight victory celebration was short-lived when it was discovered that the padding had been illegally removed from Resto's gloves by his trainer, Panama Lewis, before the fight. Resto was subsequently incarcerated and banned from the sport, while the brutally beaten Collins went into a tragic downward spiral. Resto gives his account of the story in the documentary. Lewis, whose official career as a trainer came to an end that night, was also subsequently banned, and speaks for the first time in Assault In The Ring about the events of the fight and their impact.

Pacquiao vs Cotto Update: Carlos Gonzales of Primera Hora has reported from Aguas Buenas, Puerto Rico that Miguel Cotto is now training for the Pacquiao fight. For Miguel Cotto, it is never too early to start training, especially when it comes to a fight with a boxer the caliber of Manny Pacquiao.


The Welter champion (147 pounds) of the World Boxing Organization (WBO) yesterday hit the gym -Abner "Pin" Cotto- of Aguas Buenas, for the first time to direct the preparation for his appointment with the Filipino November 14 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

"I had done one other thing, but had not yet seriously stepped on the gym," said Cotto, who made the typical routine of stretching exercises and five rounds punishing the heavybag.

Furthermore, early yesterday morning, he ran on a track for 40 minutes.

"The idea is to do it two to three times a week until Phil Landman (his coach) touches the island on August 22 and begin to train full-time on the 24th (August)," said the boxer from Caguas.

Also, their coach, Joe Santiago, stressed that one of the reason to start preparing more than three months before the battle reflects in the quality of the opponent(Pacquiao).

"We want to go to work slowly and get the most out of the following three months to achieve a quality of preparation," said Santiago, who works in his second fight of Cotto as a coach.

"We will still be well conditioned to avoid the history of previous fights, like that of Antonio Margarito, in which Miguel had a good but long long preparation. We do not want to arrive tired the day of the fight and therefore we will divide/pay attention to the workload, "he added.

Cotto has been watching his weight carefully even during his resting-time after the grueling fight against Joshua Clottey last June.

"He was at rest, but made his short running laps to maintain a balanced weight, so that there's no setback in the preparation/training," shared James.

They will use eight-ounce gloves....

According to representatives of Pacquiao, they have also requested the duel to be approve for the use of eight-ounce gloves. However, the regulations of the Nevada Athletic Commission requires that fights above 140 pounds, participants must wear ten-ounce gloves. However, if allowed to use eight-ounce gloves it would not be the first time they make an exception to the rule. For the brawl of Cotto-Margarito, the Commission of Nevada approved the same request.

Although the matter has not been discussed, Gabriel Peñagarícano, Cotto legal adviser, said yesterday that in all probability the boxers will use eight-ounce gloves.

"I don't see any problems for it to be approved," he said.
